Kill Team reports - Death Guard vs Scouts

Image
Several of us got together at the Warlords for some games of kill team. We got some more people into the group. I played two games against the defenders of the Imperium. The lackeys of the Corpse Emperor were no match for the Sons of Moration. In encounter I was up against Kent's scout force. These were just the models he had in his case to support his bike marines. I can't remember the name of his chapter, Hawks something I think. It didn't matter his goose was cooked. The scouts were mostly wearing camo cloaks which combined with long range and concealment meant the Death Guard were often hitting on 5s or 6s. This mission was about recovering intelligence so I didn't need to kill the scouts only keep them off the objectives long enough to recover the data. Each objective is worth one with the central worth 3 points scored at the end of each turn.  The Death Guard chose to take forward positions and the scouts chose to booby trap the pile of crates they were us...

Symptoms of Ferric Blight

I had a second game with the Death Guard on Saturday, the was against Carson's Necrons. This was in the same derelict warehouse as last time. This time the Genestealer cult had left and the Necrons had arrived. I changed some models from my list, I replaced the gunners with blight launcher with two with plasma gunners. Both sides chose take forward positions and the Death Guard won the roll off so got to advance a couple of models. The combat specialist and a pox walker stomped forwards leading the advance. The Necrons won the initiative and began charging the front lines of the Death Guard with their flayed ones. Crucially Carson used a reroll on a failed charge and then spent another on more bullets in the shooting phase.  The Flayed ones charged the combat specialist and the pox walker with the shooting Necrons moving up and readying. The Death Guard zealot charged in while the shooters readied and advanced. The shooting was better than last game with the plasma...

Death Guard go to war.

We got together at the Warlords today to play some Kill Team. For most of us it was our first games so I don't think we were creating any new benchmarks for tactical genius. I took my Death Guard to see how they went and what I could learn. The Death Guard deployed in a ruined building. I chose plant traps and got to trap two pieces of terrain. Alan chose take forward positions. This picture is a bit blurry the camera focused on the wall in the foreground and the depth of field wasn't quite enough. The top floors of the buildings were all dangerous terrain so its going to all be on the ground. Alan was using his Genestealer cult. They were crouched around a shipping container. Unfortunately this was one the  Death Guard had trapped. When the cultists moved out one of them set off a trap and was killed by a spray of toxic slime. The Abberant also took a wound.  The Death Guard won initiative and tried to charge the cultists with some pox walkers. all the charges fa...

Death Guard kill team

I have been having some fun building some plague marines and pox walkers for my Death Guard kill team. As with most of my kill team projects it has grown rather out of control. The new Plague Marine models are suitably disgusting with loads of horrible details, tentacles spilling out of cracked armour and all sorts of boils lesions and buboes. The models are all the new style with arms, legs and torsos designed to go together in specific combinations. This does limit conversion options but it does allow GW to pack loads of detail onto the models in ways which would not have been possible with the old flat jointed arms and weapons. One thing that is annoying is that the new malignant plague caster is only available in the large boxed starter set. There is no blister pack option for this model. So I have converted a couple out of some plague marines. Some curly wood elf bits from the spares box helped in making the gnarled staves they carry. I have been thinking of linking 40K a...
