Battlefleet Gothic - Chaos Exterminatus

Image
Admiral Akrell looked at the orders in his hand. Finally his command would be going to engage the chaos fleet. Even if guarding a mining colony wasn't the most noble sounding assignment. Jame's fleet of Blood Soaked Berserkers were out to misbehave and commit an atrocity on the Imperial Mining colony. Here is my fleet defending the planet. We also have some planetary defenses and some converted freighters, filled with highly inflammable stores. I have some more ships out on patrol that might come back to assist in time. Here we are lining for some gentle nova cannon fire. Here is James's fleet, they have been burning hard diverting power to engines to minimise the time in Nova Cannon range. here are a pair of ancient grand cruisers, 2 squadrons of Devastation cruisers and 2 Slaughter class cruisers. James has a wave of ordnance out in front. One of my reinforcing squadrons of Cobra Destroyers has arrived and is about to launch a torpedo salvo at the carriers. The Slaughter ...

Hobby updates - Kill teams and BFG.

Image
I ordered some 3D printed BFG ships, to expand my Imperial Navy. I have a bit more work to finish the paint jobs ready for the campaign next weekend. I have started painting these. I think I will change the yellow panels on the noses. I need to add the black around the weapons and then the engines. The I can coat them with starship streak and grime. I have also been painting some more kill teams. I bought a Strike Force Justian set and painted them as Howling Griffons. I also got some more assault intercessors and now I can field a standard Intercession squad. This is Strike Force Justian. These box models are nice to assemble. These are a standard intercessors. These are the two sets of models combined together to form an intercession set. These models are my first experiments with contrast paints over a zenithal base coat. After watching Mountainside Tabletop I got myself a box of the Phobos marines. So I have been assembling a bunch of their different specialists. They look like ano...

Battlefleet Gothic - which end of the ship is the front?

Image
The Club had an open day on Saturday. I got to play a casual game of Battle Fleet Gothic. I took my Imperial fleet out for a spin. Some of these ships have not left port in 20 years. I have 4 cruisers with 2 firestorm escorts. All my ship bases have names. I wrote these on with a white marker pen. If I do more, especially for the Chaos Fleet I think I will create the names and stick them on. The first ship in the formation is The Mars Cruiser, Imperial Endeavour, flanked by the Dominator class cruisers Human Enterprise and Marathon Triumphant. Admiral Akrell was in overall command of the fleet, and his flag was aboard the Dictator Cruiser, Eternal Vigilance.   Sensor pings showed several enemy captial ships approaching. Range over 120,000 Kilometers and closing. One of the ships spawned several small dots marking it as a carrier. These were flanked by two wolfpacks of escorts. With the range counting down inside 100,000 kilometres the Imperial ships opened fire with their Nova cann...

Hunting for Eldar Corsairs

Image
I got in a game of Battlefleet Gothic down a the Warlords today. Thomas brought down his Eldar fleet, so I took my Imperial Ships out for a patrol.  I have 4 Imperial cruisers supported by two firestorm escorts. Mars Class Cruiser James T Cook Dominator Cruiser Eternal Vigilance Dominator Cruiser Imperial Endeavour Dictator Cruiser Human Enterprise These names are inspired by the ships that discovered New Zealand and a nod to Start Trek. So part of the Maelstrom Wardens Squadron is out hunting for raiders near the Maelstrom. Passing close to the Magog star Eldar sensor ghosts are detected by Inferno Squadron. Relaying the information to Admiral Akrill aboard the Endeavour the inexperienced squadron waited for reinforcements Firestorm squadron sheltering behind some asteroids and the cruisers arriving The Eldar raiders were split into two divisions, and emerged from behind another clump of asteroids. The Eldar look like they are trying to encircle the...

Going back into space

Image
I have a game of Battle Fleet Gothic coming up next meeting. I have selected my fleet and have gotten the models out for some painting enhancements. I upgraded the paint scheme on several models when we played the BFG campaign last year. I can also use this game to provide some narrative for our Kill Team games. Some wrecks or hulks could lead to some boarding actions which would make great kill team missions. I have also been getting some more shields painted and transfers added on another command worth of Hoplites. These have a mix of LBMS transfers for the Theban clubs and the conventional water slide transfers with more variety of designs from Warlord Games. Warlord provide a sheet or transfers with every box of Hoplites. I need to make up a few more elements of Hoplites, I might do a group with black shields and then use the white transfers. That would give me three different looks for each command. I have also been doing some work painting the Kill team terrain....
