Inspired by the team from Games Night and by TV shows like Primeval and Terra Nova, I created a scenario using a bunch of my son's dinosaur toys.
Prologue
A temporal experiment developed before the last war is
malfunctioning. An unstable temporal corridor has been created with the ancient
past.
A party of hunters have been showing up to hunt the
creatures emerging from the time portals. They take the exotic protein for sale
on the open market. They also take trophies and organs for sale to the
pharmaceutical industry. They will not take kindly to interference with their
enterprise.
This scenario also has similarities with the classic 2000AD scenario Flesh.
I have also been having a lot of fun getting Grok to make me images and then animate them.
I managed to roll a 20 for Bold Endeavour encounters. This meant I had an encounter on the way there and on the way back.
On the way there we encountered a ship in distress. This turned out to be a refinery ship in orbit around a gas giant. We boarded the ship went on board and fixed their problems. They were so pleased they gave us 100 gold and 50 in trade goods. We made sure their ship didn't explode until we were well clear of the area.
This is the table layout, wilderness terrain with an isolated research compound. The hunters have erected some fenced compounds to contain the creatures that come through.
Here we are deployed in our little corner of the world. We managed to pass the armory skill test so our Daleks didn't need maintenance.
The Master and Billy head over to the nearest objective. The black Dalek has transported Doc Holiday closer to the second objective
Dinosaurs start coming through the time rifts. The one that arrived next to me was a coward so would run away. The Raptor that arrived next to Alan was trapped in a containment cage so took time to escape. On the other side Richard received what would become the first of a steady stream of dinosaurs.
Here we are at the end of the second turn. we have managed to secure two loot markers. The dinosaur ran away from my close combat cyborg. A Primitive hunter has attacked my heavy gunner through a blizard of weapons fire. The Master unlocked the treasure and Billy has made off with it.
One of the Dalek Hybrids ran over and shanked the primitive to release Oook from close combat.
The master was transported to the wall and then climbed over. This seemed safe knowing that the dinosaur would run away. Expect that a time portal opened nearby and a Raptor came out. The two dinosaurs engaged in combat and both were injured at the end.
Alan's team are advancing over a crashed shuttle, towards the time portal generator. Their rearguard has been attacked by a Warp Hound. Those hounds are very dangerous and almost impossible to stop.
The team are following in support of the Master
George's team are advancing from the other side and are looking for a good place to set up their grenade launchers and commence bombardment.
George's team killed the while the Master climbed the building and activated his camoflague.
The team are spreading out while the Daleks advance. Levitate!
More Dinosaurs emerge from the portals. The Dimorphodon and the herbivore get into a fight. The spiky herbivore is advancing towards George's team.
The Dimorphodon eats the herbivore and then leaps around the corner to attack the Dalek
Georges team just manage to see off the Spiked herbivore when a large Allosaurus arrives. This would go on to each the Striker in one gulp.
The Master took control of the Dimorphodon and used it to attack Alans crew that were unlocking the secrets of the time corridor generator. The creature managed to eat Alan's quartermaster. To add some more spice to the melee, George commenced a random bombardment of grenades.
The Master was running back and forth on the roof trying to use his powers to take control of treasures. Another Raptor appeared but was shot down by covering fire from Richard's team Richard had decided to go into the dino protein and pharmaceutical business.
George lobbed a grenade at the generator, this injured Alan's pathfinder but disintegrated the Dalek. With no troops in the vicinity any chances of getting the time corridor generator plans went with them.
The Master makes a break for the edge of the table, dodging blaster fire and the occasional grenade. Everyone else had evacuated the area with the treasures we had managed to gather.
On the way back we find a derelict life boat. "Hmm early hyperdrive units cryo tanks to preserve the crew. There might be something interesting on board.
One on board we managed to find a pair of genuine Ellen Ripley sneakers. A great curio. These sneakers grant +4 to movement tests.
Alan had the most excitement on the way home. His ship got molested by a giant space Kraken. It took several rounds of rolls for Allan's crew to get their ship free. Significant hull cleaning was required to get rid of the organic secretions. Probably a quick trip through the chromosphere of a star to burn off all the gunk.
That brings us to the end of this chapter of our Stargrave adventures. I think everyone had a good time.
Balancing the needs of ground combat with the needs of having a good ship crew makes the game much more challenging. I do like building my crews themed around an old TV show or movie.
