Frostgrave - Vandred vs the Spider Cult
Deep in the Draken Wald Forest, the Trantulos Brood a cult that worships an 8 limbed god is conducting a foul ritual to enable them to become closer to their deity. Fould avatars of the spider god have arrived attracted by the ritual.
Vandred and his warband find themselves in an alliance of opportunity with the Witch Hunters. Both groups want the ritual to be stopped but for different reasons.
Here is an overview of the ruined village which has been taken over by the Spider Cult. The devout Witch Hunters are approaching from the left While Vandred's followers of the Dark Gods will be entering from the right. The Witch Hunters are investigating that tomb while they move up to collect some treasure near the ruined cottage. Vandred and Magaera have split into 2 groups and are buffing the knights in readiness for the counterattack of the spider cult. The Cult oblige by charging across the village and into combat.
A big fight erupts near Vandred and Gurni as the first wave of cultists is thrown back. Alan's Witch Hunter uses a scroll to start the Transpose shenanigans when he finds himself next to a Matriarch and feels the need for it to be urgently somewhere (anywhere) else.More cultists arrive to take the place of the fallen. My Man at arms and Barbarian are less successful and the Man at arms is taken out by a critical hit.
The camera decides that my arm is more interesting than the rest of the table. Morkar is trying to anchor the right flank. He gets rid of the first cultits but then the Matriarch arrive.
Multiple Matriarch spiders are closing from my right flank. The fight at the tomb gets exciting when Alan's warhound goes berserk and starts rolling high scores like it belongs in my warband. The Central Matriarch goes over to get in the fight with the Wardog.
Alan's warband has pulled back from the left side treasure after healing his thug and trying to protect his apprentice. Morkar is now getting some support from my Bard and Apothecary. Although the support might be more of a cheer squad than a shield wall.
Alan's Tracker is being attacked by a couple of Matriarchs, while he guards the body of the Apprentice. Gurni and Vandred get rid of another cultist.
Morkar is living up to his war-name and once he is shedding blood, he rolls back-to-back 20s to get rid of a cultist and a Matriarch.
Gurni moves over to support Magaera , the Apothecary moves up to collect another treasure. Magaera used Bones of the Earth to slow down a Matriarch that's flanking Morkar.Morkar and the Bard are laying the beats down on a Matriarch, Vandred and Gurni deal with a cultist that has snuck up on them. The Witch Hunters have successfully exited the table with their two treasures.
My Bard ran back to the other side to protect Vandred. Morkar gets flanked by a second Matriarch after it escaped from Bones of the Earth.
Morkar sees off the Wounded Matriarch. Vandred and the Infantryman are falling back with one treasure and Magaera is trying to blast the ice spider.
The Bard gets his sword enchanted and deals with the last Ice Spider. The survivors the complete their exfiltration process. The last Matriarch puts the bite on Morkar and he falls incapacitated.
4 of the warband members were incapacitated. My Archer and Barbarian recovered. The Man at Arms died. Morkar rolled a 1 so would normally be dead but Matriarchs like their food fresh so he got a reroll and fully recovered in time to rejoin the warband back at the Treasury. He can then sink a couple of cold pints with the rest of them.
We must have broken into the Alchemist's shop because we recovered 3 potions and some change and a Grimoire of Brew Potion. We got 300 XP so Vandred went up 3 levels and reduced to cost to cast Strength, added on to health and Learned how to Brew Potions. I had just enough gold to recruit a replacement Man at Arms. My Treasury contributed 3 gold to the wealth fund. So not high growth shares.
