Kill Team - Plague marines vs Kroot.
I played my latest league game against Jeremy and his Kroot. Jeremy has decided that he prefers his Kroot over his Hearthkin Salvagers. This was something I am very grateful for, I think the Salvagers are a much harder team to play against.
Before I left for Adepticon, I painted some more plague marines to make sure my squads can have all the stuff they can have when playing 40k.Here are the Plague Marines deployed. Jeremy very nicely gave me the table side I wanted. This allowed me to deploy all the marines in a compact mass. I wanted to make the fight all about these objectives. I picked the Crit op (objectives) as my primary. My strategy was to lumber forwards and sit on the objectives. In the highly subtle fancy play I put an ammo crate and a ladder to the roof just outside my deployment zone.
Here are the Kroot at the other end of the table. Jeremy had the first activation and began the process of moving up a buncha guys. In response my warrior climbs into the gun nest and shoots a Kroot on the left and the dog on the right. Severe, poison and toxic with ceaseless and a reroll from the ammo crate killed both Kroot operatives. My Plague Caster crept around the middle of the table and put a poison token and then 3 damage on a concealed Kroot with his Psychic shenanigens. I managed to sneak the Icon bearer over the center line so Contation would be free.
The Plague Marines are massing under the vantage in the middle of the table. A Kroot snuck up and planted a beacon and was then blasted by the plasma pistol of the Aspiring Champion. The Fighter snuck through the door, flailed the Kroot the plague caster had damaged and then dashed back through the door. The Icon bearer killed a Kroot but then got taken down by massed Kroot firepower. This wasn't the best trade. The sorcerer got shot and then snuck back behind the vantage terrain and healed. The Warrior, shot at some more Kroot and then dived down behind the vantage.
The Aspiring champion charged the Kroot lurking behind the building, the Kroot played Savage ambush and so would get to fight first, the champion got stabbed for 3 but then stabbed back, poisoned the Kroot and healed for 3 meaning I could survive another stab before killing the Kroot. I then shot the Kroot leader and killed him. This also gave me my overrun points for the turn. The Grenadier stepped around the corner and shot the Kroot warrior on the objective. He then dies to the return shot from the Kroot Sniper. The Warrior climbed back on the roof and shoot the bow Kroot on the roof opposite and then damaged the heavy gunner lurking around the tanks. The Pistoleer and the sorcerer are having a discussion about who has the best gun. The ability to heal proves very useful and keeps the sorcerer standing. I think at this point the Kroot were getting a counteract against the marines.
Turn 4 was pretty quick. The Aspiring Champion went for glory, moved over and tried to shoot the Kroot sniper with his plasma pistol but fails to do anything and then dies to a weapon malfunction. The Warrior is killed off, the Sorcerer damages both remaining Kroot down to 1 wound and they both die when they activate. The fighter was sulking in the building because there was nothing he could reach and he needed to sit on the objective.
The game ended up 18-7 to the Plague Marines. Another installation blessed with the Plagues of Nurgle.
