Adepticon - Saga - not all one way traffic.

Image
It turns out there were 4 English armies in the Saga event and there were at least the same number of Swiss. The Swiss were widely regarded as a powerful faction. This mission was about holding 3 objectives across the center line of the table. The strategy is about where to concentrate your force and where to put only a small amount of effort. The initial effort goes well the spear warriors move up and drive back one unit of Swiss. One the right flank, things don't go quite so well. The Swiss unit stomped over and kicked my warriors back from the objective. It wasn't all one way the Swiss were down from 10 to 6 warriors. If I could kill off some mroe they would not be a scoring and I could get back the objective. The Swiss counterattack throws back the English Warriors, My Warlord chased off the Crossbowmen, The English Heathguard advance to take up the attack. We go in and beat up the Swiss but bounce off. My archers are hiding behind stakes and shooting at the Swiss opposite ...

Adepticon - Saga Age of Chivalry

Image
On the Thursday I played in the Saga Age of Chivalry event. This is the latest set of rules, so I needed to paint a new army. I had some Wargames Atlantic medieval peasants that I needed to paint so my army is made of those and some dismounted knights from Footsore miniatures. The English army is influenced by longbows and has plenty of shooting abilities. In the first game I was playing the internet famous RodgeRules. He was organising the event so I wondered if I was considered the most unreliable attendee. Rodge was using Germans so heavily armoured Knights and infantry and a unit of peasants with Crossbows. Here is most of the English army. The 2 D terrain was surprisingly immersive. It also solves the problems of models falling off and its very easy for the umpire to bring to an event. Here are some of ze Germans. A Warlord, mounted knights on barded horses, some foot hearthguard and some foot warriors on the other side are more knights and the peasant crossbows. Here is the...

Adepticon - Stargrave

I was using my Dr Who themed warband at Adepticon. These were inspired by the Episode, Day of the Daleks. I have the Dr a Time Walker and the Aristocratic Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, some unit troopers a time traveling resistance fighter and the St Trinians hockey team. All these models are Crooked Dice. Here are some shots from an adjacent table. This is an interesting layout with the buildings on one side and the vegetation on the other. I think this is what Real Estate agents call a semi-rural aspect. Although after these battles, property values will be down significantly  This was a 4-player game, and the participants seemed to know what they are doing. They were using the Side Hustle cards as well as trying to complete the mission. I'm not sure what range of models this team is from, but they look nice. Here is the Dr and Co. We have laid down a protective forcefield to protect the advance. Alice has run forwards to grab one of the objectives just as fast as her littl...

Kill Team - Plague marines vs Kroot.

Image
I played my latest league game against Jeremy and his Kroot. Jeremy has decided that he prefers his Kroot over his Hearthkin Salvagers. This was something I am very grateful for, I think the Salvagers are a much harder team to play against. Before I left for Adepticon, I painted some more plague marines to make sure my squads can have all the stuff they can have when playing 40k. Here are the Plague Marines deployed. Jeremy very nicely gave me the table side I wanted. This allowed me to deploy all the marines in a compact mass. I wanted to make the fight all about these objectives. I picked the Crit op (objectives) as my primary. My strategy was to lumber forwards and sit on the objectives. In the highly subtle fancy play I put an ammo crate and a ladder to the roof just outside my deployment zone. Here are the Kroot at the other end of the table. Jeremy had the first activation and began the process of moving up a buncha guys. In response my warrior climbs into the gun nest and shoots...

Adepticon Frostgrave - Arachnomorphia

Image
We were in part of the Frostgrave world that was infested with the curse of the Spider god. This was a 2 scenario mini campaign. Here is my warband after the first game. Much-gather the gold pressed warpstone. Lots of Kill-Slay. Here we are running up a buncha rats. My Rat-ogre is an animal companion-bear. I have cast Strength on it so it's fight 6. The treasures are guarded by some Ice spiders. These are low level followers and spies for the Spider god. A quick distraction looking over at the next table. This was a multi-player game. My advance is led by a couple of plague monks the bears a warra t-hound . My Wizards have bravely assumed the Skaven leadership position at the rear. The are covered by 2 crossbow-rats A gnoll thug briefly disputes control of the treasure chest. The hound is great because its fast moving so can add an extra +2 combat resolution were needed. I had a Kennel in my base so I could have an 11th model. The Rat Ogres doing Ogre things and bullying the more ...
