Kill team, Plague Marines vs Wreckas
I was drawn against Tony and his Wrecka crew. The most popular factions in this league iteration are Arbites and Wreckas. Plague Marines and maybe Harlequins also have a couple of teams. Alan has a dark mirror match on Saturday with his Wreckas against the other Plague Marine player.
I was of course totally prepared, having never played Wreckas and not played on ITD in third edition. But you don't survive 10,000 years without picking up some tricks.
This is the map we are using. I am oozing my way down from the top. I chose that side because it allowed me to secure the middle objective and gave me more access to the room with the neutral objective. The door in the top B3 piece also gave me options to support my home objectives in case the Orks wanted to rush that objective. Here is my main strike force heading to the room, with the neutral objective. This was where I thought the main action would be. I have placed a barricade in the room so I can move in and hide. Alan kindly lent me one of his pieces of C1 terrain we needed for this map layout. The Ork Warboss had the same idea that this room was important so send over his most violent boyz and a pet squig. Propper cunnin that iz.
My Champion moved up and opened the door into the room. The Orks countered and lobbed their Pulsa Rokkit into my doorway. My fighter moved into the room concealed behind the small barricade.
On the other side of the map the grenadier has moved up to defend my home objective while my Warrior is engaging the Ork running down the corridor. Even though on Conceal the Ork has not made it to Cover and the barricade is light terrain so it's not obscured. The Ork has taken some chip damage and is poisoned. My dice were not expecting to be needed so early in the game and were taking some time to warm up. The Warboss is running across the room hoping he doesn't become a priority target.
Then was the main event, the two steel clad fists of the Breaka Boy Krusha, versus the Rusty Cleaver of the Plague Marine fighter. Both sides were -1 to hit. After rerolls and Wrecka points the Krusha had 2 Crits and 2 hits and the Plague Marine 2 Crits and 3 hits. Both weapons were Brutal and Shock. The Krusha went first and landed a Crit, The Fighter struck back landing a crit, The Krusha landed a second crit and then the Fighter used his second Crit to parry the last Krush hit and still had two normal hits to resolve. So winner and still champion the Plague marine fighter. Although down to 3 wounds remaining.
The Icon Bearer moved around the wall and discovered the Orks had a Demolisher boy hiding behind the wall and with orange armour blending into the wall, he promptly opened fire with his trusty bolt pistol landing a some damage and a poison token. The Demolisher charged over and then detonated his hammer. The Boy was killed in the explosion and the Plague marine went down to 1 wound. Several 1HP gangstas.
The Ork Warboss has been joined by his pet squig. He would later sneak over and open the door.
Turn 3 the Ork Warboss made his move. He dashed
into the room and opened fire Rokkit pistols Akimbo in true Matrix style.
Although probably not a cartwheel. He killed the 1 wound Icon Bearer with one
Rokkit and then used the extra blast plaoy to shoot the Aspiring Champion and
the Fighter, However this Rokket was a bit of a dud and the Champion took chip
Damage and the Fighter took none. Striking a pose the Warboss then went on
Guard. The Aspiring champion who was also the champion this turn then charged
the Warboss. He absorbed a concentrated rocket barrage on the way in and
arrived on 2 wounds. However having made it to combat he got to slowly stab the
warboss to death who can't retaliate until the end of my activation. After a
good stabbing and healing 3 wounds, the Aspiring Champion booped the button,
before he was charged by the Squig. The
Squig who failed to bite the Champion but exploded spectacularly when the
Champion stabbed it. That’s 3 critical hits you say..... unless I roll 3 sixes
it’s splat….. It was Splat!
The Grenadier was living his best life behind the barricade sitting on the objective.
The Warrior brought down the Ork Fighter with sustained bursts from his Bolter. He did absorb a Krak grenade from the Ork and took some damage.
