Kill Team - Phobos Marines
With the Warlords starting Tuesday night gaming, I got in a kill team game against Ed and his Nemesis Claw team. I decided to try out my Phobos team.
We were playing Sabotage on a lengthways map. This created a situation where the table looked like a street with ruined buildings on both sides.
My Phobos team is painted in a codex approved night fighting camouflage scheme. This mutes the normally bright Howling Griffons scheme. Behind this building I have the Vox Breaker, the Minelayer and a Reiver.On this side I have the Sergeant, the Veteran and the Marksman.Opposite my Sergeant is the Shriecker, Ventrilokar, and Champion. Across the alley is the Meltagunner.Here is the Missile launcher gunner and the Skin Thief.I have occupied my home building. My Voxbreaker moved forward and Auspex scanned an 8" bubble of no obscuring. My Minelayer moved forward and planted his mine on the other side of the door thus making charging through the door an unattractive option. The Riever is up on the roof threatening a turn 2 charge. I tried throwing a stun grenade on the skin thief but failed.The Skin Thief and Champion moved into the building opposite. They will be joined on the upper level by the missile launcher.My Marksman moves up onto the roof drops a smoke grenade and drops a smoke marker. Being Obscured while ignoring obscuring is great. Must do again. The Ventrilokar has moved up and is hiding behind the portable barricade. In the only dice roll of the turn my Marksman took a guard shot at the Ventrilokar but rolled 2 2s and 2 1s. I rerolled one dice for balanced and rerolled it into a 1. So those dice went back into the box.I Vox Jammed the missile launcher so he couldn't move. My Marksman double-tapped the Ventrilokar and I left a body to secure later. The Skin Thief slunk around my home building to the right. The Reiver charged the heavy gunner using his grapnel gun. I used Stealth Assault to resolve 2 dice first and took the gunner down to 1 wound but took damage myself. I used my third action for a follow up attack but Ed used dirty fighter to resolve a dice first, and the Reiver was incapacitated.
My Minelayer dashed past his own mine, getting the green friend light. He then double tapped the Nightlord Champion and left him badly wounded. The Nightlord champion then fired back with his plasma pistol on low power and then charges, this ends up with the champion dead and the minelayer down to 4 wounds. The Meltagunner them moved over and incapacitated the minelayer.
After double tapping the Ventrilokar the marksman dropped down the ladder. I was a bit greedy and left him hanging out too far and he ate a Krak missile from the wounded gunner. My Veteran and Sergeant have moved forward to control the center objective form the Shrieker.
They are also shrouded in Smoke.
The Skin Thief charged the Vox Breaker but got the worst end of the deal after two rounds of fighting and parrying. The Vox Breaker was down to 1 wound.
The Marksman got finished off by the missile launcher who was doing well for a model on 1 wound. My veteran moved around the corner and double tapped the Shrieker. Taking lethal 5+ and rending resulted in a triple crit shot. The Melta Gunner came over and failed with the melta gun and was then blasted by the Sergeant. The Vox Breaker, somewhat chastened then dashed back to hold his objective.
In the last turn ed won initiative - again. The gunner blasted the veteran and then dropped out of site. The sergeant moved to take control of a body token while the Vox Breaker sat on his objective and concentrated on keeping his insides inside his body.
I scored, Crit Op 4, Tac Op 4, Kill Op 6 (5 marines and more) and then 2 from the Tac Op.

Things I learned:
Smoke grenades are great. Always good to be able to hide in an obscuring cloud, especially when you can shoot out.
Minelayers and Saboteurs are complicated and situational, but they are still normal marines.
The Confirm Kill tac ops is hard to do if you are shooting people from a distance and it's hard to get someone to stand on a kill marker in the early game. I'm not sure what would be the better option. I'm not sure I want to give up precious actions planting beacons.
