Kill Team - Shark Attack, Bheta Decima

Image
I got the opportunity to play Ryan and his Plague Marines. Ryan is just starting his Kill Team Journey. It turns out he is studying architecture at the same school where I studied 40 years earlier, I have built some more Tactical Intercessors, I have a veteran sergeant and 4 more guys with different models of bolt gun.  Here we are with the tactical marines which came with the starter set. I'm using the marine with the grenades as the gunner, given the tactical marines I bought of Ebay didn't include the boltgun with the auxilary grenade launcher. Here is the Assault section, they performed quite well in the first two games with this team. Here are the specialists on their big round bases. Here we are after the scouting phase, I have the Tactical sergeant, the Sniper the Intercessor gunner and 3 Assault Intercessors one of which is the grenadier. My sergeant slid out past the end of the gantry and blasted the Plague Marine Warrior. Having a tactical sergeant allowed me to play ...

Spearhead - Slaves to Darkness part 2

Next up after the Skaven were the Moonclan Goblins. These are a new faction developed for AOS. The Goblins went first and then the Chaos Warriors and Lord charged them to show them the error of their ways. The Chariot charged into a unit of Goblins. The other Chaos Warriors went into the Trolls. The forces of chaos got to take the double turn on turn 2. The Knights arrived and the chaos warriors parted to give them a nice charge lane. They promptly rolled a 4 and didn't charge. This resulted in the trolls engaging the whole of the chaos army. It took forever to kill them. Fortunately, the Chaos lord can do Crit Mortals so managed to kill off half the trolls by himself while holding onto the MoonClan boss with his other hand. In turn three the moon moved to the other side of the table and the Trolls lost its blessing and got easier to kill Freed up from Killing the trolls and the goblins the Knights and chariot raced back and tried to kill off the Squigs that had teleported into th...

Spearhead - Slaves to Darkness

Alan very kindly organised a Spearhead event on day 2 of the May 2-day meeting. So, 7 of us got together for 3 games of Spearhead. I Played Nick and his Skaven. It was Nick's first game and my 4th.  Here are the two armies deployed. The Chaos Warriors took the first turn. The chariot and one unit of warriors charge across the table. The Chariot assassinates the Warplock engineer but is then ripped apart by the Rat Ogres. The Chaos Warriors slaughter innumerable clan rats but they keep coming back. The other Chaos Warriors and the Lord are holding the central objective. The Skaven skitter around the ruined wall. The Clan Rats make a move to capture the central objective while the Warlord looks on from the preferred position of Skaven Leadership. They bounced pretty hard while the other Rats snuck onto the other side of the objective to try and drown it in Bodies. The Rat Ogres had killed 4 chaos Warriors in their turn, so they Rallied and 3 of the 4 casualties got better. The ...

Kill Team League 3 - Shark Attack

Image
This is the first game of the new Kill Team league. I am using my new Angels of Death team of Carcharadons. I have chosen the doctrines of Duelist and Aggressive. The first mission was Loot on a custom Volkus map created by one of the local community. Initially when I looked at the map, I thought that the Red side was better because it had two objectives close together.  I created the layout we were going to use and tried to see if there were things that would be useful to know that are not apparent from the map. The Laser line highlights some of the narrow angles of fire possible for long range gunners. These angles show angles of fire from the vantage point on the large tower. One key difference is that this is protected on two sides by heavy terrain whereas the vantage points on the ruins are only protected by light cover on the ramparts. The big vantage also covers ground out to the left but this is heavy terrain. I also checking that it's possible to jump from the vantage to t...

Hobby Update - Holy icon.

Here is my statue from the Blood and Faith box. I started with a zenetial primer coat then went straight to the oil wash. This is a great way to get shadows and stains into the recesses. After wiping off the oil wash. I gave the statue a drybrush of ivory to boost the highlights. This did a great job of bringing out the details and maximising the contrast. This gave the statue a Weeping Angels vibe. After watching Duncan Rohdes painting tutorial, I decided to paint the plinth, candles and details to give it more colour and contrast. St Anna is now ready to appear in about zero Killt Team games.
