Warriors of Athena - if you go down to the forest

 Achillies and his party had tracked the marauding beastmen back to their forest hideout. Having killed several of their leaders we wanted to finish the job. Never leave a good enemy un-slain.

The Beastmen also had a witch that was cursing us. I'm also doing this mission solo. Alan had to leave for another commitment. 

Here is the layout we have a beastman hero some other beastmen and the witch waiting to appear in her cave mouth. Everything no on the paths is difficult ground so there is an insentive to follow the yellow brick roads and get ambushed, just like Varro did.

Achillies has selected a had hitting team of warriors to accompany him. Some have served him well on his adventures and some are new additions. We barely make it into the forest when Raaaargh! the beastman hero rushed towards us. The Hoplite has taken damage from an arrow.
We launch a counter attack on the heastman hero and one of the warriors rushes ahead into the beastman and promptly gets bonked on the head for his trouble. The archers open fire.

One of the Hoplites is waiting at the back, why you may well ask....
Because this is the right flank. "Now they have a giant spider!"
This fighting is getting fast and furious in the forest glade. The Beastman hero is proving a lot to handle, especially when Achillies fails to summon his heroic powers. The beastman flush from his victory over the warrior ran in and got taken out by an archer but not before inflicting a serious injury on the poor chap.
Yes, that's another revolting spider closing fast on the left.
Achillies and co. Get it together and the beastman hero falls and the spider nicely leaps onto a braced spear and is turned into a kebab. The archer has moved up to support the thief and the Hoplite is engaged with the beastman hero.
The other spider is dispatched by the Hoplite and the thief. Now there is only a nice bit of looting to do.
Achillies didn't like the Witches social media posts so set off in hot pursuit. Another giant spider showed up and got turned into a pincushion by the archers. Another interesting item of loot is looking likely over to the right.

My veteran archer promptly takes out the annoying Witch with an arrow through the neck with a gas bill attached.

game over we win, mission acomplished.

  George and I got in a second game of our Stargrave campaign. We used the dead or alive mission and generated the Brood Mother. I didn't think it made much sense for a group of human mercenaries to work for a creature that kept trying to get them to bathe in marinade. I replaced all the mercenaries with spiders using the creatures from Quadrant 37. We used the Transmat to beam down to the planet Spiridon This is a very hostile jungle planet teaming with all sorts of lethal predators. Receiving reports of unidentified aliens hiding in the Plane of Stones we set out through the jungle to find out what was going on.  Here is the Raknos nest, somewhat unexpected. The Adepticon Saga

I am going to Adepticon with the Family at the end of March. I am an Adepticon noob. I managed to get into a couple of the Saga events. The Age of Magic on Thursday and the Age of Vikings on Sunday. For the Age of Magic event I am taking an undead army. I will be using: A Necromancer Warlord 2 points of Hearthguard, 4 points of warriors, 1 monster and 1 point of creatures. Typically I will trade in 2 hearthguard and 4 warriors for some combination of a Black Knight, and extra creature or a catapult. I am having some fun painting some new models to make the list. I got in a game against Thomas over the weekend. This was a real eyeopener. My attacks bounced off Thomas's units who always seemed to have extra defense dice, attack dice or both. My Hearthguard got a big surprised when Tom revealed that his archers could shoot units that were charging them. It was a good learning experience and an opportunity to hopefully recruit Thomas into our Saga community. Some of my idea...

Hobby update - Frostgrave campaign

For our next Frostgrave campaign we are going to theme it with Warhammer models. The idea is that we are all the forces of chaos and destruction and are going to bring down the kingdoms of men elves and dwarfs as part of our 12-step programme to ascension. Using a warhammer theme also makes it more accessible to people that have not played before. Everyone has some GW fantasy models. I have bought a few Warcry warbands and some underworlds boxes to make warbands. I have made some other models out of a box of undead peasants to round out some of the thieves and thugs that are not usually included in Warcry warbands. After reading a Conan story where he encounters a giant composite ghost. I remember I had this model from the Carnevale Doctors range and am painting it to look like it's a ghost.
