Spearhead - Flesh Eater Courts
I played my first game of Spearhead on Saturday. Alan was trying out his new Iron Jaws Ork retinue. Alan did a great job of making sure I had an enjoyable game.
I won the roll for initiative and decided to play on the Ghyran map and diagonal deployment. we ended up with the terrain in an almost mirror layout so its like we are fighting across a street in apocalyptic city.
In the middle is my leader with a bodyguards of Crypt ghouls, on the right are the Morbleg knightsOn the left is the Vargulf courtier.
Here are Alan's Orks. The big bruiser unit doesn't arrive until turn 3. My idea was to kill as many orks as possible before they showed up.
I took the first turn and then moved everyone forwards. My leader proved to be a rather inept wizard, lets hope he is better with his claws. With no shooting, there is no option but to get into combat
The Knights kill off two of the berserkers and take the last one down to 1 wound, It strikes back and does one wound to a knight.
The Vargulf makes it into combat with the Orks. It brings down two and then uses its heal and run away ability. This gives me a unit in enemy territory and not in combat for a Raid. Whether I should have done this or kept the Orks locked in combat is debatable, still a victory point in the hand.
What glorious carnage, The Ghouls and leader have hacked lumps out of the Orks while the Ork boss has taken a couple of wounds off the vampire general. The Orks are all pinned down in their territory apart from the 3 survivors of the Vaghulf attack.
The Knights have finished off the Ork Berserkers, the Ghouls have finished off the Orks in the centre. The Orks have used their bonus move to move into my territory so they would score raid. The Ork warboss attacked the Ghouls and killed 4. The Ghoul general now has 6 blood points so all units within 12 inches get bonus attacks.
The Vargulf begins stalking the surviving Orks
The Jaws close about the Ork Warboss. The Knights charged in and took the ork boss down to 1 wound who then killed the vampire and was in turn killed by the Ghouls.
Some Orks have shown up as reinforcements, this doubles the number of Orks on the table
The Knights charged in and took the ork boss down to 1 wound who then killed the vampire and was in turn killed by the Ghouls.
The Vargulf only managed to kill one ork this time, maybe they don't agree with his stomach. The reinforcement Orks managed to capture a second objective giving Alan 3 objectives and 2 bonus points so 5 victory points with 5 models.
The Vargulf and the knights set off in pursuit of the remaining Orks. Here I am measuring to make sure I am out of 3 inches. The Ghouls are staying back to score an objective to be within 3 inches of the long board edge in Ork territory.
The Knights have charged in and killed the three reinforcement Orks. The Vargulf finally got his act together and ate the last two orks of the other unit. 5 nasty brutish and huge Orks showed up looking got their mates
The Orks Angry that their friends had gone to meet Gork and Mork without them got stuck into the knights. Both sides killed one each. Looking at this picture the vargulf could have intervened in the fight, but I forgot I could do that.
In my last turn, I retreated the Morbleg knights, they can do that without harm so they could seize one of the diases. The Gouls had run over some of the models to the other board edge to give me seize their flanks. I the Orks last turn, they moved up and took control of the objective in the middle but didn't fancy their chances of charging the Vargulf when he has Strike First from the tactic on the card.
So this left the FECs with the win. Loads of fun and plenty of choices about which cards to do vs killing your opponents models.
