What I have been doing in my holidays

As predicted, I got some new models for Christmas.

I have been working on the Kastellan Robots. I have been enjoying using the Vallejo model air colours. These produce a great range of colours that work really well through both the airbrush and a normal brush. Vince Venturella recommended them. I recommend people check out his channel on YouTube for painting inspiration.

I went with a Cylon inspired colour scheme. I decided not to convert the heads into Cylon Helmets but did make the eye scanner glow effect on the screens.

The weapons are magnetised so I can change between fists and guns.

I might buy another set and paint them gold to be leaders of the units. I think one unit of 4 with fists and two with guns might be the right number.


I have also been working on the Kataphron Destroyers. These are big bad battle cyborgs mounting heavy weapons. Either heavy grav or plasma.





I also got inspired to paint this model today. I got this model back in 2005. I was stopped because I could not decide a scheme I liked.

So with some blue tack and spray cans I set about emulating the Soviet camouflage. Not bad for a couple of hours work.

I have seen people put all sorts of hobby goals for 2018. My hobby goals would be to enjoy my hobby, feel inspired in my creativity and share the fun with my friends.

      The plane is the Hellblade, its from Forgeworld. Its an air superiority fighter with 4 auto cannons. You can read about them in some of Dan Abnets Gaunt's Ghosts novels or more specifically in the book about the air war of the Sabbat Worlds crusade.

Hobby update, Sons of Death, Crusaders and Inquisition

Since my Saga game last weekend I have been painting a unit of mercenary warriors, they can be either Sons of Death or Vagrant Warriors. This gives me a hard hitting unit of expendable mercenaries who can take out an enemy linchpin unit probably at the expense of their own lives. I have also been finishing off my unit of Crusaders. These are devout warriors of the Emperor and it purely coincidental that they look like gladiators released from the pits to fight for the Inquisition. I also got a figure of Inquisitor Eisenhorn. I have started work on him. I need to find a suitable model for the Daemonhost Cherubael who is one of the last of Eisenhorn's companions now that he has been declared diabolis and expelled from the inquisition. I have tried painting the eyes on these models and it is hard work. I definitely think that painting the face and eyes early in the model is the way to go if you want to do it. Stargrave 40k - "we just got our asses kicked man"

Alan and I went up to the Bring and Buy day at the Kapiti Club in Paraparaumu. We took our Stargrave game. In this case we had followed our leads to an abandoned factory. However when we got there we realised that the factory was far less abandoned than we had hoped. As we approached we could hear the sounds of chanting and the smell of old blood. It certainly didn't sound like Slaaneshi cultists. Here is an overview of the factory mounds of overgrown rubble and broken machinery. At locations around the factory were groups of red robed figures crouched over bits of equipment. They appeared to be trying to unlock the access to an underground silo. Here is the new Inquisition strike team. We have two new commandos and a doctor along with a former heretic that had been reprogrammed into an assault gladiator. Frostgrave - Second game

On Saturday I played Thomas and his Enchanter warband. We played the Mausoleum scenario where we find an ancient gravesite guarded by Skeletons. My Thief is trying to unlock the treasure. He is obviously confused by the fact its a book. My Apprentice looks on with disgust and tries to motivate the Thief. No, No, turn it the to the left, no the other left. My Wizard Mind Controlled one of the Skeltal guardians and caused it to attack another. While the Skeletons were distracting each other my Infantryman smashed the enemy skellie to bits. Everyone raced forwards to the treasures. My Man at Arms supported by an Infantryman cover around the left hand side of the tower. Thomas didn't like my soldiers looking at his wizard so blocked off the hole with a stone wall. All this noise has attracted some wild dogs who start coming towards Thomas's team. My Thug picks up a treasure after the thief had unlocked it. My Wizard then transposed him with the skeleton and the Skeleton ran off to
